Designer Fashion for the Plus Size Diva

The selection of high quality, designer fashion lines for plus size women is growing, making it easier for a plus size diva to show off her curves with nothing but the best. We don’t have to be confined to the Women’s section at Sears or to boutique stores that carry only the mildest, most generic looks. And our designer attire doesn’t have to start and stop with purses and shoes.

Eileen Fisher is an stunning but modern designer who puts out a line of woman’s sizes. Her designs can be found at stores such as Nordstrom’s, Saks, and Nieman Marcus, and fit in perfectly with high waste accessories. Monif C. has been featured on the Tyra Banks show, and Peggy Lutz, who’s designed for Kathy Bates, offers custom plus size couture. All three represent the wide range of plus size fashion available both in person and online. There’s even the very high end Elena Miro, an Italian plus size designer who’s collection can be viewed online but only purchased in store. Unfortunately for the U.S., her only store in North America is in Toronto.

When I went online looking for “the dress”, the one that would make a special night out amazing, my first stop was Zaftique. Zaftique has everything you would gather in a typical women’s department, with a larger selection and greater variety than at typical mall store. Their selection of foundation garments and swimwear leaves something to be desired, but they have a huge selection of novel dresses, tops and skirts. After Monif C. they are my current place to shop online.

The most well known retailer of plus sizes, Lane Bryant, can be shopped online and at malls nationwide. If you’d like to do a little better than a department store selection, while not breaking your everyday budget, they are a great resource. That’s not to say they’re cheap – you still have to watch for sales and use discount codes to bag a good deal. While I find their in-store selection limited their website is a much better bet as it includes a wide variety in every category. There’s even a bridal boutique where some very nice, basic, plus size wedding gowns can be purchased.

And lastly, Kiyonna, a designer frequently featured in plus size magazines, has a website that really seems to deliver on it’s promise of “sophisticated style”. The clothes are romantic, with sensual lines but mature styles. While Kiyonna doesn’t have as large a selection as Zaftique it’s much easier to find something to admire. Kiyonna also has plus sized bridal items and a very nice selection of intimates.

So now you know there’s no excuse for not dressing up as often as you wish. Designers are responding to a growing interest in fashion from people of all sizes and budgets, and those cute threads are out there! If you don’t mind taking a chance on ordering online and possibly returning for a better fit, you could be the envy of your friends, curvy or not

Cheap Halloween Costume Ideas for Twins

Dressing up for Halloween is a lot of fun, but it can be expensive sometimes. Dressing up twins for Halloween doubles the price, but there are a lot of really ample costume ideas that are inexpensive, fun, and perfect for twins. Here are my five common Halloween costume ideas for twins, and I will account for how to create them cheaply.

An awesome costume for twins is angel and devil duo. For this costume all you will need is a white outfit and a red outfit, pipe cleaners, felt, foam, cotton balls, glue and some ribbon; the craft supplies needed can be found for very cheap at Joann.com . For little babies appropriate colored onesies are perfect, and for older children and adults there is a lot of room for customizing your outfit. To create a halo simply cut a circle out of a piece of gold pipe cleaner and wear it around your head. For horns cut two half circles out of red felt, and glue the straight edge together to acquire a horn. Fill it with cotton balls and glue a red circle to the bottom, but remember to stick a long piece of ribbon in between the circle and the cotton filled part. Do this with both horns, and leave enough room on the ribbon for it to tie around your head correctly. Next cut wing shapes out of the foam and glue to ribbons to the inside of the wings. Make sure the ribbon is long enough to tie around your shoulders. This costume is great for twins of all ages.

Another unique and adorable costume of twins is thing 1 and thing 2 from Dr. Seuss’s distinguished narrative The Cat in the Hat. This costume is cheap and easy for children. Simply buy matching red footie pajamas and red mittens for your kid, and you will have half of this costume complete. Next you will need 2 pieces of white felt cut into circles and a permanent black marker. Simply map thing 1 and thing 2 on each circle and glue it to the costume. You will also need 2 blue wigs, or you can glue blue fur or fuzz to a hat and shape it like the character you are creating.

Twins will look great together when dressed as a cop and a robber. This is a budget-friendly costume idea because all you will need is some blue cloths and white outfit that looks like pajamas, a black permanent marker, and some police officer toys found at your local dollar store. The cop should wear a blue suit and his toy gun and badge, and the robber must draw black strips all over his outfit. He can also wear a plastic ball and chain on his ankle.

The princess and the toad story is a great inspiration for twins’ costumes, and you can make these costumes cheaply and easily. To create a princess costume you can simply manufacture a crown out of pipe cleaners and wear a pretty dress. Have the frog wear all green, and make sure to paint some spots on his back. Make sure you have a hooded shirt on being the frog so you can glue sizable white circle eyes of felt on the top of the hood. This costume is cute and creative.

One of my favorite Halloween costumes for twins is a bee and a flower. This costume can be created inexpensively and quickly. For the slower you will need a green onsie or pajama set with a hood, green foam, and some foam sheets colored whatever your flower petals are meant to look like. Next cut leaves from the green and glue them on the help sides of the green outfit, and glue strips of the colored foam around the hood and neck line of the outfit. For a bee costume all you will need is a yellow outfit that can be painted with three dismal stripes in the middle. Add some black foam wings and make antennas by wrapping two pipe cleaners around a head band.

These cute, easy and inexpensive twins’ costumes are perfect for Halloween.
